In recent months we have completely redesigned and updated this website – which was originally created in 1999 –  and is being, massively expanded with the variety of information we offer being constantly increased. Indeed, it is our intention that information on every business and commercial concern in Stoke Newington and the surrounding area will be accessible here before the end of March 2010. We will always supply free listings by subject but also publish hyperlink advertising at reasonable rates(contact us for more information). Although we are rigorously editorially independent, our existence is entirely dependent on advertising revenue.

We also provide regularly updated sections on local news, music listings, bars and restaurants, shopping, what’s on… in fact, everything you need to live in and enjoy this little parish. However, we do not intend to deal simply with entertainment – important as it is – in the manner of other, smaller local sites, but also to carry comments and articles of political, cultural and historical relevance to N16 without, we hope, being too po-faced and pious about our local area. We have no political axe to grind, and are happy to consider and run pieces which affect people who live and work in this proud, dissident and historically important part of the borough of Hackney. The right of reply to any article we carry is guaranteed (so long as it is not defamatory, dishonest, and all the rest of it.)

Our community section is an extremely important part of what we plan to provide in the near future and we are currently talking to experienced professionals with a view to providing information on a wide variety of subjects including social benefits advice, health and welfare, schools and education, single parent help, Hackney Council and homelessness amongst many others. The site is run by people who have lived in Stoke Newington for over twenty years, who have witnessed the area’s incredible transformation from a run-down, drab and unremarkable typical inner city few streets into the glitzy, trendy urban ‘paradise’ of today, suffused as it is, however, by pockets of deprivation, crime and injustice. We reserve the right to comment on all of this, without compromise. This is not a small village in deepest Berkshire, as certain local people may appear to believe, and we are rooted in the inner city, with all its attendant problems but we also celebrate its edgy vibe and its illuminating and enriching cultural and racial variety.
