There's more to local libraries than taking out books, DVDs and CDs, logging on to the internet, photocopying and catching up with local news and publications (although these services are all available). For instance, here are some of the free activities currently happening at Stoke Newington Library on Church Street.
Richard's Reading Group Every second Tuesday, 7-9pm (adults). The group is currently reading The Draining Lake by Arnaldur Indridason, for discussion on 9 February. Storytelling, toys and refreshments. The sessions will not be running during the summer holidays - please contact the library for more information. Games Club First Tuesday of the month 6-7.30 pm. Are you aged 7+ and love challenge? Join the Games Club and learn to play a variety of board and fantasy/strategy games - Formula One, Warhammer, Monopoly, dominoes, chess, draughts, cards etc. All level players are welcome - from beginners to advanced players. Bring your favourite board game with you to be played. Free refreshments. Exchange Group Based in the library study area. Exchange Group is a company offering free and subsidised training, computer courses, business courses and skills for life. Come to talk about the books you like and read new exciting books together! A chance to make new friends, enjoy various activities, arts and crafts as well as educating days out, games and competitions. Rhymetime for underfives Every Saturday 11am-12pm, in the children's library. Join in singing favourite rhymes and nursery songs and playing games. Enjoy storytelling, puppets, toys and lots of lovely bubbles! Refreshments provided.
