New Arts Centre in the parish

The Old Politis Turkish Delight factory is the home to a recently opened independent arts centre in Manor Road, Stoke Newington. On offer is a range of facilities for the development of art in Hackney, including a gallery space, artists’ studios, a dance studio, a music rehearsal space, a recording studio and internet radio station Reel Rebel Radio.

Politi Arts opened with the exhibition River, featuring painting, sculpture, film and photography from emerging talent as well as established artists who live or work locally. A diverse selection of weekly courses is currently running at Politi Arts, including Flamenco, Street Dance, Jive Dancing, Life Drawing, Egyptian Folk Dancing, a Folk Music Club, Women's Muay Thai Kick-boxing and Capoera. Politi Arts aims to provide arts space and facilities to the local community at affordable prices. It is affiliated to Artcore International, a charity set up by volunteers in 1995 to help support and promote art. Annual membership to Artcore is £20 and anyone with an interest in community art participation is encouraged to join.
