Madame Lillie's presents Unintentional, an exhibition of paintings by Steve Keane. The nudes are painted from models. First painting figuratively then they are deconstructed, turning the real into an image. The process allows the accidental to thrive; there's a push/pull between the artist's intention, and the unintentional.
The focus is solely on the figure, not the "background", so not to be distracted away from the figure, and by painting it with large gestural marks the paint begins to include the space around it, connecting the two, but there is still some isolation and broken space.
Drawing on influences from Matisse, Picasso and Bacon, Keane's work intends to explore; expressionism in colour; the essence of the model and the painter; the presence of the viewer, and the human condition.
